Since last week Microsoft offers upgrades to version 10 of its operating system Windows. While upgrades often bring a lot of security and usability improvements Windows 10 also comes along with some changes in its default privacy settings that are criticized by privacy advocates.

The German IT-Newssite Heise.de reports that Microsoft collects data about the web surfing behavior and usage patterns of the speech recognition software Cortana. The data is used in combination with a Microsoft account and a Ad-Id for the purpose of targeted advertisement and profiling.

We therefore recommend to change the privacy settings after the installation is completed and to use Windows without creating a Microsoft account.
